Boricua Tries It: Daiya Cheezy Mac

Okay, so I have been experimenting with vegan “cheese” here-and-there. I am a hard girl to please, and most cheeses I have tried have gotten the thumbs down. Just when I was starting to give up on vegan cheese, I got curious about Daiya’s vegan mac-and-cheez. I picked up from the grocery store, not having high expectations. I was just hoping it was edible enough to consume (or I’d have to make my boyfriend eat it).

A really awesome thing about this product is that you literally don’t need to grab any extra ingredients. All you need is a pot of boiling water. Everything else is in the box. As much as I love cooking, when it comes to quick-foods, I rather it just come with what it needs, so I don’t have to go out and find the extra items Within 10 short minutes, I had a bowl of macaroni and cheese. WIN.

Okay, let’s get into it:

Texture: Same texture as your typical mac-n-cheese in a box. It wasn’t watery, clumpy, or weird. It was thick, creamy, and smooth. Daiya, you NAILED the texture. I’d say it was much creamier and “milky” than real cheese. 😉 

Shape: Your typical macaroni noodle. No surprise here.

Taste: Okay, as I dunk my fork into my big bowl of cheesy pasta, I expected to at least hate it (I know, I know). Buuuuuuut…this was BOMB! Holy crap I had no idea a vegan macaroni and cheese can taste this good. Why eat real cheese, when you can have it vegan?! It tasted like the real thing, and this is coming from someone who can just eat cheese like it’s nobody business.

Overall: It’s really good. The texture, the taste, the easiness of the cooking process. I definitely recommend everyone to try this product – whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, or a meat eater. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
